Trigger Point Injections

Trigger points are overactive muscle areas, such as muscle knots, that may result from stress, muscle overuse, or spine conditions. They sometimes can improve with better posture, reduced stress, stretching, and exercise. However, when a patient cannot get relief, they may benefit from a trigger point injection. A trigger point injection is when the doctor provides a small amount of numbing medication, such as lidocaine, into the painful muscle area to allow the muscle to release, relax, and numb the area. This can provide significant relief within minutes.
