A nerve block relieves pain by interrupting how pain signals are sent to your brain. It is done by injecting a substance, such as lidocaine or steroids, into or around a nerve. It can help determine the source of pain as well as provide relief from pain, including various headache disorders, such as migraine, cluster headache, and occipital neuralgia.
