In Memoriam:
Dr. James Burke

With great sadness, we mourn the passing of our colleague and friend, Jim Burke.

Dr. Burke passed away in his home on June 16, 2021. During his decades of practicing medicine, Dr. Burke was beloved by his patients and esteemed by his peers. In addition to his unmatched expertise in neuromuscular disease, he was known for his collegiality and compassion with patients and colleagues.

Dr. Burke attended Dartmouth College and then received his medical degree from the University of Rochester. He completed residencies in both internal medicine and neurology at the University of Michigan, where he was chief resident in neurology, followed by a fellowship in neuromuscular disease and electromyography.

During his time as a partner at Abington Neurological Associates, he received numerous awards for teaching and patient care. As a doctor and as a mentor, Dr. Burke touched thousands of lives.

We will always remember Dr. Burke as a wonderful physician, loyal friend, and devoted fisherman. He will be dearly missed by his colleagues, patients, friends, and family. Our deepest condolences to Jim’s loving wife, Cynthia, and his accomplished son, Brian.

Sincerely,
